bought this to give me some peace of mind while I am away from home. It definitely does that. My dogs recognize when it is in use as the light changes from yellow to blue (colors dogs can see). They usually look up immediately when I turn it on to watch them, even if I don't activate the microphone or dispense any treats. They quickly learned to recognize the noise it makes to signal that treats are coming and come to get them very eagerly. They also seem to recognize my voice when I speak to them through the microphone and will obey commands I give them. The night vision camera is great for low light conditions and often gives a clearer view than the normal camera, even during the day.

Works as expected, very easy setup with the phone, it just took me a few seconds. Once you setup your feeding schedule, you do not need to leave your phone turned on, the feeder will activate accordingly. That is especially important when you are traveling by airplane and you need to turn the phone off, I leave a pet sitter to take care of my cats, of course, but she doesn't need to worry about feeding times. I have not tried to see how it behaves if your phone is in another time zone, but according to their responsive support, it respects the feeder time zone.
I will not give it 5 stars because I think they should offer an official splitter for those who have more than 1 cat. I had to go look for one to split the food into 2 bowls.

All components get cleaned with mild liquid dish soap and warm water. What's key here is the full dis-assembly.
